Putting all of the two stroke needs into one category and calling them two stroke fuels is not the way Coopers produces fuel. Coopers produces fuel based on engine design, there are generally the following types of two stroke engines: ABC Type (interference fit between the piston and sleeve), Ringed, Lapped Iron, bushing and ball bearing. I'll supply you with the facts, and let you determine your needs.
Cooper's "All Synthetic Formulas" are exactly that, 18% of our high heat, high shear strength synthetic lubricants. The All Synthetic formulas are perfect for those that desire an all synthetic fuel for all modern two and four stroke engines.
Cooper's "Traditional Formulas" contains 18% total lubricant, composed of 15% synthetic and 3% castor. This formula was developed for those wanting a reliable, powerful sport blend for several applications, without fear of voiding their warranties. Available from 0% through 30% nitro. The Traditional Formulas are well suited for all the modern two and nearly all four strokes on the market.
Cooper's "Plus and Plus-C" formulas were originally developed with
superior synthetic compounds for high performance helicopters, and pattern planes, both two and four stroke. Designed to handle the heat and abuse that competition heli and pattern flyers encounter,
runs cooler and produces more power than the competition. If you have a modern two or four stroke (airplane or heli) and want
it to run cooler and run stronger, use one of the Plus or Plus with castor formulas.*
Plus and Plus-C formulas are available from 10% nitro through 30% nitro
contents, higher and lower nitro blends with the Plus family of synthetics are
available by special request. Buy it, try it, and verify for yourself why our
customers prefer the Plus family of fuels for demanding applications.
Cooper's "Hi-Rev" formula was developed for pylon racers and others looking for
a performance edge. Very unique synthetics are utilized (along with some of our
AA castor oil) to protect engines in racing environments where finishing the race and letting the engine reach its maximum potential is key. More power and a lot cooler running is what this formula was developed for. Many racers have reported 800 to 1500 rpm gains with just a fuel change, with
most reporting an increase in piston , sleeve and rod life. (runs great in four strokes too).
Currently available in 15% nitro only
Cooper's "Moki" formula contains 15% total lubricant, composed of 11% synthetic and 4% castor. Developed around the big Moki and Super Tiger engines for maximum longevity and exceptional performance, with even tempered running habits. Available in 0% and 5% nitro by special request.
Cooper's FAI fuel is an honest, true FAI legal fuel. Containing 20% by volume pure AA Grade castor and 80% clean, dry, pure (99.5% or greater) methanol. Absolutely nothing else is in this fuel, not even anti-foam agents.
Our FAI has been a favorite for owners of Rossi's, MVVS's, and other high
compression engines designed for zero or low nitro fuels.
A little about your 2-stroke engines and their fuel needs
ABC type 2-stroke engines, including AAC and ABN engines with ball bearings all have an interference fit between the piston and sleeve as the piston travels up the cylinder. For these engines we will always recommend our Traditional Formulas that have 3% castor oil and 15% synthetic,
or for the performance minded, the "Plus-C" formulas.
Bushed 2-stroke engines (those without ball bearings) with or without a ring, will always be served best with castor in the fuel. The crankshaft needs to float inside the bushing, the higher viscosity of the castor oil in the fuels gives these engines the cushion they need for long life. We recommend The "Traditional Formulas", they will give you incredible protection and longevity without sacrificing power or reliability in bushed engines.
Lapped Iron 2-stroke engines have a piston and sleeve metallurgy that are not sealed with an interference fit or a ring, so they need a buildup of castor varnish in order to maintain good compression. Break-in should be performed with a high castor content fuel, all of our Control Line formulas are extremely well suited for this task. See the Control Line tab for additional information.
Ringed 2-stroke engines utilize a compression ring to establish a compression seal. Ringed engines do not need as much castor oil in the fuel to insure maximum longevity like their ringless counterparts. Through extensive testing, Cooper's has found that protection will not be compromised with our All Synthetic, Traditional or Plus Formulas.
Racing 2-strokes and High Performance applications. High rpm engines and fuel have their own special requirements; unlocking the performance potential without sacrificing protection. Cooper's has developed an extremely high performance castor/ synthetic or all synthetic formula that will give you those extra few hundred rpm's, holding up to the extreme heat and abuse encountered in racing. The Key to the "Hi-Rev", "Plus" and "Plus-C" (castor/ synthetic) is not less oil, just better oil.
* These statements are from
numerous customers that have reported much cooler running temperatures and more
power from their previous favorite fuels. We have duplicated what our customers
have told us by bench testing using other fuels. Since it is virtually
impossible to duplicate every engine, prop, plug, tune or gear ratio combination
there can be in planes and heli's for testing purposes, we can not guarantee the
same results, however: The overall trend that that we have experienced here is
substantial reductions in head temperatures (when tuned to the same rpm with all
other factors being equal), and and substantial increases in rpm's (when
tuned for max rpm's with all other factors being equal) as other popular fuels
of the same intended purpose and same advertised nitro content.
